The main entrance to the town was constructed in 1555 when it was under Venetian rule (1420-1797). Look out for the winged lion of St Mark, Venice's symbol, which is displayed prominently on the walls here and in several other spots around the town.

The gate is an interesting pink color, and the plaque above it lists the date in 1944 when the city was liberated from Nazi Germany. It leads into the main plaza/Arms Square of the city and from there to the other wonderful sights inside the Old Town. Visited May 2023. Traveled as a couple. Written September 19, 2023.

The main gate and most popular gate in kotor to enter the old city, their is 3 of them. This was the gate I entered the city through for the first time as the bus dropped me of at the Port, which is only 100 metres from gate entrance. Gate has significant history to it and has wonderful detail on the gate, A real treat to see while visiting Kotor.
